Learning & Development Coordinator, 2008-present
Provide leadership in learning and development to a staff of 550. Assess performance gaps. Determine and recommend to senior management solutions to narrow performance gaps. When appropriate develop and deliver training to staff or contract with other trainers. Provide recommendations to senior management and staff on Web 2.0 tools.
- Created a Learning Council comprised of 14 library employees and provided leadership to this team so that the team can provide feedback, input, and assist with the learning and development of library staff.
- Implemented self-paced training using a learning content management system.
- Team leader for customer service champions and online resource trainers.
- Developed and implemented staff blog for internal communication: http://blogs.plcmc.org
- Presented at local, national, and international conferences.
- Published in American Libraries and Computers in Libraries.
Human Resources Training Specialist, 2005-2008
Work closely with IT, HR, and Public Services Teams to provide leadership in learning of technology training for library staff. Prepare and deliver system-wide training to staff on all aspects of technology.
- Developed and implemented a comprehensive Information Technology Core Competencies program for staff. After three months of aggressive training saw a 25% increase in staff technology competencies.
- Collaborated with Public Technology Director to brainstorm and implement Learning 2.0-23 Things.
Automation Support Coordinator, 1999-2005
Develop and present technology training courses for both library patrons and staff. Assist library patrons at the Information Services Desk with technology assistance, readers’ advisory, and general reference questions. Cross-trained in Children’s Services and Circulation. Support and maintain a network of 70+ public and staff PC’s at a regional location. Troubleshoot and repair hardware and software problems.
- Served on the Horizon Training Team and collaborated with other team members on developing training materials and delivering training.
- Created the Library’s Automation Support Coordinator Orientation checklist that outlines skills and training that all new ASCs must acquire within one year of employment. Trained new ASC and Information Specialist/Technology staff.
- Created and led Internet Safety Team in the development of an Internet safety and awareness program for families.
- Developed PLCMC Technology Training Statistics Database for system-wide use to track public technology class evaluations and statistics.
- Developed Access databases and reports to track branch circulation statistics, training statistics, HVAC system, short story collection, and classic paperback collection. Trained library staff on using these databases.
- Contributed articles on a regular basis to the staff newsletter, InfoBytes.
- Team leader of Internet Safety Team. Member of Training Advisory Group Team, Public Technology Trainers Team, Online Resources Training Team, and Horizon Training Team.
Microsoft Inc.
Technical Support Engineer, 1998 – 1999
Support engineer for Microsoft Access versions 2, 95, 97, 2000. Provided support to Microsoft customers ranging from home users to IT staff at large corporations with skill levels ranging from novice to developer. Provided support by both phone and email for topics such as: setup and configuring MS Office; debugging SQL and VBA code; developing, troubleshooting, and distributing, database applications; client/server configuration; relational database design; ODBC; automating MS Office; troubleshooting printer problems; general how-to questions.
- Wrote and edited Microsoft Knowledge Base articles regarding Access and VBA.
- Assisted Beta Team with testing of Access 2000.
- Assisted Content Team with testing and editing of Microsoft employee training materials for Access 2000.
